Unrivaled Durability

We make one thing, and we make it better than anyone else – ask any thru hiker and you will likely hear the same. In order to unconditionally guarantee a hiking sock for life, it must be durable. It must maintain its comfort, and it has to fit for miles upon miles on-trail. The socks that do return through warranty inform how we can improve. And we do. Our guarantee is a promise to you, but it’s a standard for us. We have yet to produce our best sock, but we get better with every step.

I love these. I teach

"I love these. I teach weekend rifle marksmanship courses, so I’m on my feet in all kinds of weather (sun, rain, snow, rain torrential downpours, did I mention rain?) day long. These socks are always warm and comfortable (even when soaking wet!) I’m taking only DTV socks hiking on a bucket list trip to Iceland later this year ."

Wonder socks, happy feet!

"I am so happy with these socks! They fit perfectly, and I don't want to take them off. . . ever. . . They are perfect for Minnesota winters. I have some UGG boots that are a little too big that make these a perfect match. I also have some Dr Martens that have zero cushion, and these make them more wearable/comfortable. I love these socks! Well worth the money."

Go to Winter Sock

"Love the thickness of this sock, it really keeps my feet and legs warm. So much so that I rarely wear long underwear anymore. If I had one wish, it would be that the calf portion was available in a little larger option. This version seems tighter than one purchased several years ago."

Diane M. (4/5)

Worth every penny

"These may be the best pair of socks I have ever had. They are plush and supportive without being constricting. I wear a 9 1/2 women’s wide, and have bigger calves so I opted for a size large. They are perfect- stopping just below my knees. I wear these on 24 hour shifts at the hospital and they are exponentially more comfortable than compression socks but give me almost the same support. Wish they came in more colors/patterns but other than that they’re 10/10."

Perfect gift.

"I got two pairs to give a couple of friends. They both had socks that wouldn’t stay up, and one was walking around with holes in her toes. WHAT? So I got them each a pair of these warm socks to keep their feet warm. They were very happy with them. No more sagging socks no more holes in the toes! Perfect."

Jacqueline P. (5/5)

Great fit!

"Super cushy and thick, very well made. I have multiple pairs of Darn Tough socks and1 the craftsmanship is always excellent. And they feature cushioning the entire way up the sock! I work in a cold environment for 10 hours a day and these keep my feet warm. I just love them!"

Donna S. (5/5)

Great for Cold/Snowy Hikes!

"Kept my feet/legs warm while hiking this past weekend! They don’t leave my feet sweaty like non merino wool socks do. They also do not smell!"

Hillary M. (5/5)

Super toasty and great for

"Super toasty and great for working outdoors in winter. Good height and stretchy enough to fit calf. Very very cushy. They do not fall down!"

Luisa K. (5/5)

Great quality

"I was happy to find quality over the calf merino wool hiking socks for those cold winter days. These socks are just what I was looking for. Great quality. Perfect fit."

Janet T. (5/5)

Essential for fireseason

"I love these socks. I wear these socks multiple days in a row (about 4-5 days max) without any issues. These are my go to socks for my White's fire scout boots. They add great padding to a very minimalist boot. My environment often goes from very chill to not chill very quickly and I am grateful to not have to think about my socks. I love knowing that they have the lifetime warranty but after two full fire seasons these socks have yet to show any wear."

Q&A

I am interested in the Women's Mountaineering Over-the-Calf Heavyweight Hiking Sock to help with cushioning in my boots. The description says all weather, but dies that mean they would be ok in the Texas summer heat?
Hi Quill! We use Merino wool for its natural ability to wick moisture, regulate temperature, and resist odors! This makes them great in all kinds of weather and environments, including summer heat. Learn all about our wool right here: https://darntough.mom/pages/merino-wool
I just got this email re mountaineering socks but you are sold out. Why did you bother!
Hi Phoenix, we apologize that the socks you're looking for are currently out of stock in your size. We are hustling to knit more as we speak and we're sorry that we can't provide an exact timeline of when we expect them back in stock. We will continue to update inventory, and should have these available soon.
Can anyone tell me how the width is up the calf on these high socks? I have really wide calves and have learned to not take a chance on anything that doesn't say Wide Calf.
Hey Sarah, our OTC options generally fit a calf about 17-19" in circumference. We offer free returns/exchanges for 90 days on darntough.mom so you can shop stress free!
